I wrote this liturgy for the congregation I serve, St. Philip Lutheran Church in Glenview, Illinois, for Pride Sunday 2022. I offer it here for use by anyone who finds it helpful or enriching for their own community’s worship. The base liturgy is drawn from the Affirmation of Baptism rite found in Evangelical Lutheran Worship, with additional inspiration from The United Methodist Hymnal. Permission is joyfully granted for faith communities to reproduce, use, and/or further adapt/contextualize this liturgy with attribution.
This liturgy is particularly appropriate for Reconciling in Christ (RIC) or equivalent congregations for use during Pride Month, RIC Sunday, or another time of celebration and affirmation of welcome for the LGBTQIA+ community. This may be used as part of the gathering rite, following the hymn of the day, or another appropriate place for your community’s liturgical pattern.
